For diagnosis of catarrhal stomatitis data of objective survey and a microscopic research of dab from an oral cavity are used. The main objective of treatment consists in elimination of inflammatory process and elimination of its reason.

Catarrhal stomatitis

Catarrhal stomatitis represents pathology of a mucous membrane of an oral cavity with development of intensive inflammatory process. Distinctive feature of a disease is absence of ulcers, rashes and other defects of the struck area. Catarrhal stomatitis is the most common form of stomatitis which is found at patients of all age, both at men, and at women. Symptoms of a disease are often shown insufficiently intensively that leads to the late request for the dental help, synchronization of process or accession of an infection. Most a failure is development of ulcer and necrotic stomatitis – it is followed by the expressed pain syndrome and will badly respond to treatment. For this reason early diagnostics and the timely beginning of therapy is necessary.

Reasons of catarrhal stomatitis

The major role in development of a disease is played by existence of the injuring factor, an unsatisfactory condition of an oral cavity and decrease in immunity. Can lead existence of carious teeth with keen edges to a travmatization of a mucous membrane, the old or poor established seals, orthopedic and orthodontic designs or application of too rigid toothbrush. At children's age the disease quite often develops in the course of eruption of milk teeth.

Unsatisfactory hygiene of a cavity and mouth forms the favorable environment for reproduction of the pathogenic microorganisms getting through microinjuries into a mucous membrane and provoking its inflammation. It is possible to carry to the additional factors promoting development of pathological process diseases of a gastric-intestinal path, blood and endocrine system, decrease in immunity, avitaminosis and smoking. At children catarrhal stomatitis can arise against the background of acute infectious diseases, such as measles, scarlet fever, flu etc.

Symptoms of catarrhal stomatitis:

The most important symptom of catarrhal stomatitis is the hyperemic and edematous mucous membrane of an oral cavity. It seems to the patient that his cheeks as though swelled up from within though any external changes at the same time are absent. In the place where infection resulted from a trauma, a wound or a microcrack, the white raid is found. The mucous membrane is painful, and gums in the struck area begin to bleed therefore it is difficult for patient to talk and eat food. Children become whimsical and whining, refuse food. Catarrhal stomatitis is followed by emergence of an unpleasant smell from a mouth and a gipersalivation. In a row a case salivation, on the contrary, decreases, and the mucous membrane is covered by a sticky raid from epitelialny cages, leukocytes, bacteria and slime. Regionarny lymph nodes, as a rule, do not increase. Temperature seldom goes beyond subfebrilny. In the started form the disease can be complicated by accession of the ulcer and necrotic centers.

Diagnostics and treatment of catarrhal stomatitis

The diagnosis is made on the basis of the yielded objective survey and results of a microscopic research of dab from an oral cavity. Treatment first of all is directed to elimination of inflammatory process and simplification of a condition of the patient. For this purpose in stomatology rinsing of an oral cavity is used by antiseptic solutions (, hydrogen peroxide, camomile flowers decoction etc.). At adults it is possible to apply solution of lidocaine or benzocaine to simplification of a pain syndrome.

That treatment was effective, it is necessary to eliminate the factors which provoked development of catarrhal stomatitis. Full sanitation of an oral cavity with careful removal of a scale and sealing of carious cavities at least temporary seals is for this purpose carried out. The dentist has to carry out all manipulations most carefully not to injure the inflamed mucous membrane. Reception of vitamin and mineral complexes and the sparing diet excluding reception of rough, spicy, hot and cold food is recommended. As a rule, these measures lead to bystry improvement of a condition of the patient. Otherwise it is necessary to look for the cause of illness, for example, connected with diseases of other bodies and systems or decrease in immunity.
